Key Provisions

• Bans car makers from making misleading claims about what partially automated driving systems can do, starting within 180 days of the bill becoming law.
• Requires car makers and dealers to give buyers a clear notice about a partially automated system's features, limits, and driver responsibilities when they buy a car, starting within two years.
• Requires car makers to tell drivers about any major changes to partially automated driving systems when software updates are offered, starting two years after the bill becomes law.
• Requires new cars with partially or fully automated driving systems to have clear labels showing what the system does, if driver supervision is needed, its operating limits, and any annual service fees.
• Lets the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and state attorneys general enforce these new rules.
