Strategic Plan for Aging Act

Key Provisions

• The Assistant Secretary for Aging would award competitive grants to states, Indian tribes, and tribal organizations. These grants would help them create or carry out "Master Plans for Aging" for older adults and people with disabilities.
• These plans would need to be guided by groups of aging and disability experts and community partners. They would also need to set a clear vision for at least 10 years and cover 10 key issues, such as housing, health, and economic security.
• States and tribes applying for grants would need to show their commitment to the plan. They would also need to describe how they will involve the public and assess the needs of older individuals and people with disabilities in their area.
• No single grant would be more than $500,000. The Assistant Secretary would award up to 65 grants over five years, with at least 10 going to Indian tribes or tribal organizations.
• Grant recipients would need to create their plan and start putting it into action within two years of getting the grant. They would also submit regular progress reports.
