Military AI contractors would report security risks and get advice.
This bill would require big artificial intelligence (AI) companies working with the military to share their security plans and dangers. This helps the Department of Defense protect national security by getting more details on threats from these companies. These contractors would have new reporting duties.
Today, no specific laws tell big AI contractors to report security details to the Department of Defense. If this bill passes, the Defense Department would set up required reporting rules and offer optional security advice for contractors. These rules and advice would apply to contractors with at least $100,000,000 in AI contracts. They must also have spent at least $1,000,000,000 on AI research over three years, or use AI models from companies that meet this spending rule. These contractors would also have to report security problems within 72 hours and update their security information every 90 days.
