Key Provisions

• Creates a special fund in the U.S. Treasury called the "Abandoned Hardrock Mine Fund."
• Directs fees from new mill sites to be deposited into this Abandoned Hardrock Mine Fund.
• Lets the Secretary of the Interior use money from this fund to clean up abandoned mines without needing new approval from Congress.
• Allows mining companies to set up multiple mill sites, each up to 5 acres, for their operations if they are part of an approved plan.
• Clarifies that these new mill sites do not give mining companies mineral rights and cannot be fully owned through a patent.
